I will be diving into my usual coverage of my fave event of the year, every year, Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive a little later on, but I just want to mention the Couture Exhibition held annually by Tarun Tahiliani. The designer showcased his collection on July 25th at the Emporio Mall in New Delhi.
Each year, Tarun Tahiliani takes the opportunity to display a selection of couture pieces in a carefully curated and produced exhibition. Rather than having brides walk down the runway, the pieces are revealed on extravagant sets, more like great works of art or museum pieces. This year's collection, entitled "Jewel Box" was a distinct departure from last year's contemporary, diaphanous fabrics and muted tones of grey, brown and pink.
This year, the dresses are in rich shades of ruby, jade, and rich pinks and yellows mixed with orange and gold. Embellishments are swarovski elements, threadwork embroidery, and ribbon borders. The designer eschews heavy work, in favour of strategically placed designs, keeping the clothing light and sticking to his philosophy that, "weight is not modernity." (quote via Couture Rani)
