Mirror Mirror: Magazines, What We Want, and What We Think We Want.

The Spring issue of Asiana Weddings is out, and you can check the cover out by clicking here.  Riddle me this...apparently more and more Asian brides are asking makeup artists for a less toned-down, not-too-caked look.  So then why are magazines still promoting this heavy makeup?  Are they out of touch, or is that we really like dramatic makeup, but it's fashionable to say we don't?

I think the caked on makeup is alive and well! Maybe it's a more Pakistani thing, but we love exploring dramatic makeup, ESPECIALLY for our weddings.

baji, when I was in pakistan for my sis-in-law's wedding, the beautician at the trial kept saying "tooooo moch naa hona, toooo moch naa hona" and my sister-in-law was like, does she even know what that means? I think the beautician said it because she thought it was what my british-born sis-in-law wanted to hear?

I do think brides are opting for make-up that is natural and plays on their features rather than adding in the over-the-top drama! In fact, I think weddings are becoming a lot more natural as well.

But, after Suhaag this weekend - I am on the fence. Perhaps really within South Asian weddings there is no real trends?

@mybrownwedding...I personally enjoy LOOKING at over-the-top makeup, but can't bring myself too pull it off, so like you say, I like makeup that plays off my own features.

I think there are trends...and I think the trend in South Asian Weddings is ott and glamourous, but that may be at the expense of an entire group of brides who prefer a completely different, more natural style.

My feeling is South Asian brides who don't want the typical desi look just skip most of the Asian vendors and head straight to a MAC or aveda counter.
