Bollywood Bride: Preity Zinta in Veer Zaara

Initially I was going to include this dress as just a reference to a look I was working on for another post.  But when I started watching the movie, I fell in love with it and decided to devote a post under my Onscreen Bride section because of a few of the details that I think make this lengha so special.

In the intro to this blog, I talked about how I love seeing the happiness on a bride's face cause it's what makes her so beautiful. So it's funny how my onscreen brides always seem to be unhappy, or at the very least, apprehensive about their upcoming nuptials.  Zaara is no exception, as you can see from the screenshots of the engagement scene from the movie.

Well, she may not have been too happy about her intended man, but she could have at least smiled for this gorgeous dress.  Let's start with it's gorgeous white colour, these pictures don't do justice to the satiny silk material of that top, and it really compliments the deep tones of plum and green.  I LOVE the green of that skirt, even though they only show a flash of it, and it was really hard for me to capture, it's a stunning colour and would go equally well from summer to fall, day to evening.

The bead fringe on the dupatta border is a compliment to the retro look that was in style when my mother was a bride. I don't know if any of you guys remember, but back then, they had this tinsel border on the dupatta edge. Remember? Anyways, it looks good here because it's not right on her face dangling all over her forehead, but instead it's a little bit pulled back.

Wow. I did go for a bit there, didn't I? Anyways, click here to see how I would style this lengha. If you're still interested, that is.

  1. Thanks so much for this post! I'm choosing this outfit but in a gharara design for my nikaah so that shot of her green sharara skirt was especially useful. Thanks, =)

  2. Hina, no problem. That is a gorgeous shade of green. I wish I could have gotten a better shot of it, but that was the best I could do. It looks even more beautiful in moving pictures. I have an idea for you. If you get swatches of possible material, and get the DVD for the movie and compare as you watch this part of the movie, you will get a better idea of which one matches better. It sounds a little I'm a stickler for detail like that.

  3. can i purchase these lehnga
